Gillingham AA Pairs match. River Stour from Highbridge to Catholics. (9 pairs) 05.02.23

The annual pairs match went ahead on a clearing river and fishing was patchy in the bright sunshine and easterly wind.

Bites were at a premium especially at the bottom of West Stour and some anglers even resorted to fishing for squirrels!

Winner on the day was Richard Fripp who drew peg 45, Big Hole at Catholics. Richard had one Chub on the feeder and another six on the pole at 7 meters, bait dropping maggots to weigh an impressive 16-09.

Runner up was Dave Anders who drew peg 59 and caught 3 Chub on bread and 2 on sweetcorn to weigh 9-15.

3rd: Richard Cake- 9-01

4th: Clive Pettifer- 8-13

5th: James Kiernan- 7-02

6th: Rob Manns- 4-00

This meant that Richard Fripp and Ken Murchie won the pairs with 4 points weighing 19-01 beating James Kiernan & Richard Cake into second with 4 points also but with 16-03 of weight total.

Third place went to Kev Harvey and Clive Pettifer with 9 points.

The next match is on February 19th. This is the Dave Hillier memorial upper Stour Open.

Gillingham AA 6th Winter Championship. River Stour from Trill to Catholics. (18 pegs) 22.01.23

The final round of the winter championship was fished on an exceedingly fast flowing River Stour with the added bonus -6 temperatures to contend with, so attritional conditions being the order of the day. It was no surprise that the river fished very hard with Chub being the species to target.

Winner on the day was Adie West who drew peg 59 at Catholics. Adie caught a couple of Chub and a Roach on the stick before adding another couple more on the Bread feeder to weigh 9-09.

Runner Up was Craig Fletcher who drew Blackthorns, peg 39 at Trill, and caught a couple of Chub on the stick to weigh 4-07

3rd: Rich Fripp- 4-02

4th: Richard Cake- 4-01

5th=: James Kiernan and Dave Anders with 2-05.

Dave Anders won the knockout and the final winter league table will be revealed when Dave has added up the points!

The next match is the club pairs match on 5th February.

Then on 19th February it is the Upper Stour Dave Hillier memorial match which is an open.

Gillingham AA 5th Winter Championship. River Stour Highbridge to Rectory straight (15 pegs) 08.01.23

15 brave (or foolhardy) souls fished the 5th round of the winter championship on an out of sorts river Stour which was bank high and pushing hard.

Match secretary Dave Sealey made the decision to fish, even though the river had come up overnight, but it proved a good one as he ended up drawing peg 18 at Highbridge and winning the match.

Dave fished the blockend maggot feeder and maggots or lobworms and caught 5 Perch, 2 Chub and some Roach to weigh an impressive 13-00, and had bites for most of the day.

Runners up were Jason Randall and Adie West, both with 7-14.

Jason drew peg 13 at Highbridge and caught 2 Bream, 2 Perch and a big Roach on a maggot feeder, whilst Adie drew peg 17 at Highbridge and caught 2 bream and some Roach on a groundbait feeder.

4th: Pete Edwards= 3-02

5th: Clive Pettifer- 2-14

6th: John Gatehouse- 2-07.

The knockout final will be between Jason Randall and Dave Anders.

Gillingham AA Christmas Match. River Stour at Catholics. (13 pegs) 18.12.22

The Christmas Match went ahead on a cold and clear river Stour at Catholics with an entry decimated by illness and family events.

As expected the only fish caught were Chub and only 6 out of the 13 caught in the freezing rain.

Winner on the day was Rob 'Cheeky Boy' Manns who drew peg 45 Big Hole, and found a nest of Chub willing to feed, catching 6 on the lead and Bread, to weigh 14-04 and win a hamper and £60 in cash.

Runner Up was young starlet Jack Stamp who drew peg 57, the dead cow carp hole swim, at the bottom of Catholics and caught 3 Chub on the stick and maggots and 3 Chub on the straight lead and Bread to weigh 12-12 to win a hamper..

Third place went to Jason Randall who drew peg 61 and caught 4 Chub late on the lead and bread to weigh 8-04 and win a hamper.

4th: Richard Cake- 4-09

5th: Dave Sealey- 2-00

6th: Simon Hebditch- 1-08.

Gillingham AA 4th winter championship. River Stour at Trill & Catholics (15 pegs) 11.12.22

The 4th winter championship was fished in sub zero temperatures on a clearish river with lots of flow, but Chub were the only obliging species!

Winner on the day was Jack Stamp who drew peg 59 at the bottom of Catholics and caught 6 Chub on the stick and maggots before catching another 9 on the lead and Bread to weigh an impressive 24-10.

Runner up was Dave Anders who caught 6 Chub on the bread feeder from peg 61 to weigh 12-03.

Third was Clive Pettifer who drew peg 45, Big Hole and caught 4 Chub on the float and maggots to weigh 9-04.

4th: Pete Leach- 8-07

5th:= Jason Randall & John Gatehouse- 4-12.

Gillingham AA 3rd winter championship. River Stour at Deepwater and Highbridge (18 pegs) 13.11.22

The third match in this popular series went ahead on a clearing river and it didn't fish as well as was expected with the lower pegs at Highbridge the place to be. Jack Stamp had a good day at peg 13 at Highbridge catching on 6m whip and Topper to catch 2 Perch to 2lb and 9lb of Roach to a pound to weigh 12-04 on maggots and casters. Runner Up was Jason Randall who drew peg 5 at Highbridge and caught all Roach on the stick and the pole on maggots to weigh 8-10. Third was Richard Cake who drew peg 18 and had 3 Perch for 5lb plus bits to weigh 8-02

4th: Kev Harvey- 6-02

5th equal: Pete Edwards and Richard Fripp both with 5-00.

Gillingham AA 2nd Winter Championship. River Stour Highbridge to Catholics. (20 pegs) 30.10.22

The second match in this popular series saw exceptionally mild conditions, but with little flow on the river after last weekends deluge. Despite this there were some good bags of fish taken although minnows proved very troublesome. Winner on the day was Jason Mills who drew peg 51 at Catholics and caught 3 Chub and lots of Chublets & Roach on the stick float, maggots and corn to weigh 15-00. Runner Up was Clive Pettifer who drew Big Hole at Catholics and caught 3 Chub and lots of Roach on the pole and feeder on maggots and Casters to weigh 9-14.

4th: Kev Harvey- 9-00

5th: Steve Musitano- 8-12

6th: Jack Stamp- 8-05.

Gillingham AA First Winter Championship. River Stour Deepwater, Trill, Catholics . (18 pegs) 16.10.22

The first winter championship on the Stour went ahead on a very low and clear river and the lower River at Catholics was the place to draw claiming the top 3 weights with Deepwater fishing exceptionally hard due to no flow until the last 20mins.

Winner on the day was James Kiernan who drew peg 56 and caught a mixed bag of Chublets, Dace and Roach on the stick float and pole and maggots to weigh 13-10. Runner up was Jason Randall who drew peg 60 at Fifehead Hill and caught 12-00 of Chublets and Dace on the stick and maggots and corn. Third was John Gatehouse who drew peg 44 above big hole and caught another all stick float bag of 11-04 of small fish on maggots and casters.

6th: Pete Edwards- 6-11

Gillingham AA Carnival Cup, Dave Hillier Lake Lodden 02-10-22 (25 pegs)
The ever popular Carnival Cup was fished at Lodden Lakes, Dave Hillier Lake. It was a good turnout and good weather, carp showed again and dominated the top weights. We raised £120 for Gillingham Carnival.

Gillingham AA Summer Shield, sixth match on S&HAA River Stour, 4.08.22 (16 pegs)
The sixth and final match of this series was held on Sturminster & Hintons River Stour we fished a new stretch for us this year. The river had little flow and the weather held off for us, but was breezy for most.

The fifth match of this series was held at Witherington Farm on Cottage & Selwood lakes another very hot and sunny day with a slight breeze. Winners for each lake are listed below.

Gillingham AA Summer Shield, fourth match at Todbar Manor Hillview Lake, 17.07.22 (19 pegs)
The fourth match of this series was held at Todbar Manor Hillview lake a very hot and sunny day with some incredible weights being caught. Winner on the day was Jack Stamp with a new venue record of 710lb 12oz astonishing feat all caught shallow short with dead maggot. Second was Jason Mills with 320lb 14oz having half his catch on the method to the island the rest on pole.

Gillingham AA Summer Shield, third match at Revels Fishery Main Lake, 10.07.22 (14 pegs)
The third match of this series was held at Revels Fishery's Main Lake with scorching conditions, 14 anglers braved the heat. Winner on the day was Jason Mills from peg 8 weighting 73lb 6oz catching carp for most of the day fishing long pole to the end of the island. Second was Rob Fletcher who drew peg 7 also catching carp to weight 29lb 8oz

Gillingham AA Summer Shield, second match at Lodden Lakes, 16.06.22 (25 pegs)

The second match in this popular series was held at Lodden Lakes on the big lake and blustery conditions didn't stop the Bream and Carp feeding well. Winner on the day was Rob Fletcher who drew peg 29 and caught 3 Carp on the method to 17lb and skimmers on the pole to weigh an impressive 61-02. Runner Up was venue expert Mark Harper, who drew peg 41 and caught mainly Bream and skimmers and a solitary Tench on the pole and worms over ground bait to weigh 39-12.
